Wim De Waele is a
Belgian economist and
computer scientist. He is Director of the
Interdisciplinary institute for BroadBand Technology located in
Ghent (
Flanders,
Belgium).
In
1977, he graduated in
economics and
computer science at the
University of Ghent (
Ghent,
Belgium). He started his career as a researcher on
artificial intelligence at the university. Afterwards he continued his career at
Siemens at the research departments in
Brussels and
Munich, where he conitnued his work on
intelligent software systems. He then started working as Services Director for the
Canadian company
Numetrix. in
1994, he joined
i2 Technologies as Services Director for
Europe. Later on he became vice-president for
consumer goods and
retail and moved to the headquarters of i2 Technologies in
Dallas (
Texas,
USA). On his return to
Belgium (
Europe) in
2001, he became
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the
Real Software Group (
Kontich, Belgium). Since
1 August 2004, he's Director of the IBBT.
